Job Description

Washington International Academy is a Pre-K through 9th grade Islamic school located in Alexandria, Virginia. The school is seeking a full-time Arabic Immersion Homeroom Teacher to lead its Early Childhood program, serving children ages 3–4.

Role Overview

You will lead a Pre-K or Kindergarten homeroom conducted entirely in Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha) throughout the school day. This position forms the foundation of WIA's language immersion model and requires deep commitment to both Arabic language development and Islamic values in early childhood education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver play-based lessons aligned with WIA's concept-based curriculum, adapted for ages 3–4
  • Establish and maintain classroom routines and structures that keep young learners calm, engaged, and ready to learn
  • Integrate Islamic practices naturally into daily instruction, including adhkar (remembrance), du'a (supplication), recitation of Quranic surahs, and teaching Islamic manners and ethics
  • Observe, assess, and document each child's progress in language acquisition, social-emotional development, and early academic skills
  • Communicate regularly with families about their child's growth and classroom experiences
  • Collaborate effectively with assistant teachers, grade-level colleagues, and school administration to support student success

Required Qualifications

  • Fluency in Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha) is mandatory
  • Hands-on experience teaching children ages 3–4
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to create a warm, supportive learning environment
  • Genuine commitment to Islamic education and values
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education
