Job Description
One Ummah is a faith-based international relief and development charity operating across the UK with offices in Birmingham, London, and Middlesbrough. This full-time permanent Operations Manager role is based in Birmingham and represents a senior leadership position reporting directly to the CEO with attendance at Senior Management Team meetings.
Role Overview
The Operations Manager provides essential organisational leadership, professional guidance, and staff motivation across all departments to ensure the charity achieves its strategic objectives whilst maintaining Islamic principles and values throughout operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Operations team, contractors, and staff through regular one-to-one meetings and weekly departmental meetings
- Maintain systems, processes, and compliance across all departments, including safeguarding procedures and data protection regulations
- Own and update the company risk register to identify, record, and mitigate organisational risks
- Act as IT project manager for key initiatives including CRM systems and website management
- Manage operations and IT contracts whilst driving cost efficiency across departmental budgets
- Ensure HR processes align with legal requirements and organisational policies
- Set staff KPIs and conduct performance assessments
- Foster a culture where Islamic principles, values, and approaches are consistently respected and embedded
- Support and represent the CEO on complex strategic and operational matters
Essential Requirements
- Valid UK driving licence
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification
- Minimum three years of management experience
- Proven UK charity sector experience
- Governance experience
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, database systems, and internet applications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Budgeting and KPI expertise
- Solid understanding of international development and humanitarian work
- Commitment to One Ummah's Islamic ethos and equality and diversity principles
- Basic understanding of Islamic teachings and values
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with senior executives
- Knowledge of Islamic financial concepts (Zakat, Sadaqah, Waqf)
- IT management background
