Mid Android Engineer

Role Overview
This is a full-time mid-level Android engineering position focused on building and maintaining mobile applications used by millions of Muzz's active users. Work arrangements vary by location: London-based candidates work hybrid (office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays); UK-based remote candidates attend the office on the last Thursday of each month; EU-based candidates are fully remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain native Android applications end-to-end from requirements gathering through Google Play Store release
- Iterate quickly on UI designs across multiple feature areas based on product feedback
- Collaborate with the engineering and product teams on feature delivery and quality standards
- Contribute to architectural decisions using modern Android best practices
Technology Stack
Kotlin-first development: Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Room database, Hilt dependency injection, Ktor networking, Firebase, MVVM/MVI reactive patterns, MockK and JUnit testing, GitHub version control.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years professional Android development with Kotlin
- Strong Coroutines expertise and asynchronous programming patterns
- Experience with caching strategies and performance optimization
- Solid understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
- UI test automation capability
- Familiarity with Material Design principles
- Experience with threading, animation, video/image handling, and in-app messaging
- Bonus: localisation experience and engagement with Android development community
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: £41,000–£68,000 per year plus equity (London hybrid location); £37,000–£61,000 per year plus equity (remote EU)
