SENIOR HSE ENGINEER

Gulf Dredging is in need of a HSE Support Engineer (Oil and Gas). The position will be

based in Nigeria.

This position will assist the P&M Head of Safety Engineering in the delivery of key HSE

Engineering deliverables through Construction, Commissioning, Start-up and Production.
 
The position will be responsible, as a member of the P&M Safety Engineering team, to

ensure that the transition from Project phase to Production Operations is in accordance

with the requirements of Corporate Management System and HSE Management System and in

compliance with applicable RoK Legislation.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
• To provide HSE Engineering support and advice to P&M during the transition from

Project Construction, through Commissioning, Start-up and into Production Operations;
• To support the development and management of Operations HSE Cases;
• To act as Risk Focal Point for P&M Risk Management processes e.g., EasyRisk;
• To lead or participate in HEMP studies/ reviews e.g., HAZOP, HAZID, HAZEER, Bowtie,

EERA, SIL, QRA, etc.,
• Coaching of Junior HSE staff in Safety Engineering techniques and methodologies;
• To assist in ensuring all HSE engineering aspects of facilities are in accordance

with AKCO and RoK Laws, Codes and Standards prior to Transfer of Control, Care and

Custody (TCCC) to the Production Operations team;
• Assist in the maintenance of databases for HEMP and associated HSE Engineering

documentation;
• Collate the necessary HSE Engineering data and information within Production &

Maintenance in support of the Permits and Licensing process;
• To support the development and management of HSE Competence Profiles for HSE

Professional Family and HSE Critical Positions within P&M;
• To provide input into the development of P&M HSE Startegies, Plans, Procedures and

Processes.
 
Qualifications:
• Safety Engineering, Chemical or Process Engineering Degree (or Diploma if

supplemented by extensive experience);
• Not less than 10 years engineering experience in the Oil & Gas Industry operations

world wide;
• Experienced in multi-discipline interaction within major Joint Ventures;
• Experienced with commissioning of plant and equipment in the Oil & Gas Industry;
• Experienced in ROK regulations, norms, licenses and their compliance application and

verifications;
• Previous experience of Commissioning and Plant Start-Up and handover of major Oil and

Gas facilities;
• Solution orientated approach to challenging situation with a “can do” attitude;
• Ability to work with and coach Junior staff.
 
Additional Requirements:
• Safety Engineering practices relating to Oil and Gas Production Facilities (Offshore

& Onshore);
• Commissioning, Start-up and Operation of major (Offshore & Offshore) Production

Facilities;
• Simultaneous & Combined Operations in the E&P upstream industry;
• Computer software programs e.g., Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook,

Visio, Internet Explorer. Knowledge of Safety Engineering related software packages

preferred e.g., BowtieXP, PHAST etc.
• Knowledge of RoK HSE Laws, Codes and Standards;
• Work as a team member as well as team leader with minimum supervision;
• Mentoring and coaching skills;
• Advanced communication, interpersonal, diplomatic, supervisory, written, spoke
